Momentum/Friction: The Theme

Momentum can be defined as a "product of the mass of a particle and its velocity; it is a vector quantity; i.e., it has both magnitude and direction." This year's theme is focused on the concept "Contagious and Active in Their Faith" (from the CBOQ Youth vision). The aim is to challenge students (and leaders) to live their faith beyond their comfort zone, whether that'd be within their family, their friends, their church walls or even their neighbourhoods. It can also mean living one's faith in places where it may not be expected (such as a non-Christian family setting). What "momentum" in a spiritual context is that a person can move their faith and "accelerate" in the direction that Christ is already moving towards.

Jesus claimed that a person could experience life in such a way that it would "flow" out of their very being. In John 7:37-39, Jesus boldly claims at the climax of the Feast of Tabernacles (celebrated in the fall where the people of Israel would ask for God's blessing in preparation for the new crops) in a loud voice, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them." (By this he meant the Spirit.) The KJV translates it as "out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water" i.e. from a person's very being would the Spirit overflow and extend to others.

The fact is, Jesus is constantly moving already amongst us , in us, around us and with us. He is always extending his love and grace demonstrated by his sacrifice and redemption to people around us and beyond. The question is, are we willing to move in his direction so that the faith developed in us will be a demonstration of the "rivers of living water ... from within?"
