CE-DR 2015: Day 3

Last minute change by Cristian Santiago (Lighthouse Director) last night allowed (at least those who got the message) an extra 1/2 hour of sleep below our whirring room fans. Morning worship after a cold shower (roof top water tanks cool off overnight) began at 7:30 am followed by personal devotional time and prayer partner time. Breakfast at 8:30 am saw creative uses of peanut butter and bananas on pancakes with sausage and papaya.  After

Pastor Tip: Promote the “One” theme and monthly resources, this month on prayer.

Both CBOQ Kids (www.cboqkids.ca/one) and CBOQ Youth (www.cboqyouth.ca/one) have monthly resources on specific aspects of our shared theme “ONE”.  CBOQ Kids has weekly family-based activities that can be done at home. They are shared on Facebook and on Instagram every week. Encourage your families to try these and share their experiences either through social media, video clips or with images that you can share.  CBOQ Youth offers a youth group lesson (both

October 31 Plans

In a couple of weeks, neighbourhoods across Quebec and Ontario will be celebrating Halloween. It’s a time when people in the community are out and about sharing a little fun with one another, which gave us opportunities to interact with them. Pre-COVID, many of our youth ministries were involved in community Halloween events or fundraising efforts such as “Trick or Treat for Hope” to share the love of Christ. This year will look different.  First of all, stay up to date with what your local public

Day of Prayer for Youth and FBC-Dryden

The following was part of an email conversation from Jane Wickstrom from First Baptist Church, Dryden. Pastor Adam Hall asked that I write and let you know how our Youth Sunday went. It was fantastic. Christ was central in all that was said and sung about. We praise HIM for all that He has done for us through the cross. Last Sunday (June 12), for International Day of Prayer for

Volunteer Care

How do you care for your volunteers? They give their time, energy and other resources to minister to this next generation alongside you. How do you show your appreciation? Many times, volunteers do not feel valued because they aren’t receiving appreciation in ways that makes sense to them. One way is to understand their love language. While love languages are usually discussed in the context of marriage, its principles can

CLEAR: seeing the unfiltered truth in you

There’s a scene in the movie “National Treasure” where three characters who are all looking for treasure view a map. With it are spectacles with different coloured filters. Each filter reveals a different clue on the map (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqVxaRiekac).  Like those spectacles, we reveal different parts of ourselves in different filters...in different lights. How do you define yourself? Is it based on your role like “student” or “only child”? Is it

Today’s Teens Conference 2020 – review

Last Saturday, over 1000 youth workers and student leaders converged at the Meeting House in Oakville for Ontario's largest and longest running youth ministry conference, hosted by Youth Unlimited. All were encouraged and inspired that, with all that's happening in the world, THERE IS HOPE BECAUSE OF JESUS; all were challenged to bring that hope to their spheres of influence. Some key reminders from some of the plenary speakers: Mark

Volunteer Care

Most of our church ministries operate with volunteers. Without them, many of our ministries would shut down. Many youth leaders have a problem recruiting volunteers. However, that's only one part of the puzzle. It's not just how to bring volunteers in service, it's also how you care for them. I've heard from some volunteers who feel they are essentially cheap (i.e. free) labour. Some don't feel appreciated or cared for.
