Moses, an iconic figure in both Christian and Jewish traditions, asked God what was his name. God responded with “I AM” – always was, always is, always will be. When Jesus invites us to follow him, we are invited to know God and our identity in Him. This is a vital pursuit in humanity’s existence: to know who we are in the great I AM.
Jesus Himself made powerful “I AM” statements, declaring that He is the bread of life, the light of the world, the resurrection and the life, the way, the truth and the life, and more. As followers of Jesus, he extends to us our own “I am” statements: I am a child of God, his beloved, his treasured possession and so much more.
As we grow closer to Jesus, may we embrace who are in the great I AM.
