This post was written by Tim Teakle, youth pastor at Uxbridge Baptist Church and was the team leader for our Slingshot students (Brittni Lewis and Elizabeth Nichols).
The goal of Springforth, an annual event organized by the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, is a simple yet profound one: to invite students to take a leap with God…to “spring forth” into what He has in store for them and for their communities. The challenge this year was focused around Micah 6:8 and the call to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God. It was an amazing privilege to see students and leaders from a variety of communities and provinces gather together to celebrate and worship, learn and grow, and be challenged in their faith.
The leadership of the CABC brought a question, one that they felt was from God, to all those who had assembled. They asked, “Will you join God in changing Atlantic Canada one neighbourhood at a time?”
As I head home from this experience, this question is still resounding in my mind. What would it look like for us to reach out to our country by seeking to impact the lives of our family, friends, and neighbours? What if, rather than trying to change our country or even our province, we focused on our town, our street and the house next door?
God is interested in the hearts and minds of those we encounter each and every day. If every street in every town, in every province, was changed, revolutionized by the love of God, Canada would truly resemble His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven…and that is, without question, a quest worth joining!
