Big Things Are Happening in Our Youth Group
By Melissa Shepski – The Church at Selwyn
God continues to help our youth grow in deep and significant ways especially in the last few months.
We’re Seeing Real Growth
Lately, our youth have been growing in amazing ways. They aren’t just  showing up; they are growing in their faith.
At the beginning of this year, we made a simple change:
  • We spend more time together
  • Our youth now lead worship
  • They also lead Bible study every week
And it’s made a big difference.
Instead of just listening, they’re stepping up. They’re learning to lead, to pray, and to support each other. I’m seeing real change in their lives: more confidence, stronger faith and a genuine love for God and others. It’s truly beautiful.
A Powerful Sunday at Selwyn
A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to speak during our Sunday service while our pastor is taking a month to rest. I shared about the baptism of the Holy Spirit—how God fills us and helps us live for Him.
Afterward, we invited anyone who wanted prayer to come forward…and almost the whole church responded. Our youth came up and prayed for them.
It was such a powerful moment. Seeing our students boldly step out and pray for others reminded me that God is moving in and through them.
Youth Taking the Lead
Some of our students went to a conference last November, and it really inspired them. They came back with a desire to do more—and they made it happen!
They’ve planned a youth-led worship night on June 5:
  • Worship led by the youth
  • A message from one of the girls in our group
  • Focused on sharing the Gospel with their friends
This isn’t something we organized for them. They took the initiative themselves. That’s been one of the most exciting parts.
Keeping It Simple
One thing we’ve learned is this: keeping things simple really works.
By focusing on time with God, building community, and giving youth space to lead, we’ve seen so much growth.
I’m so excited about this next season and all that God is going to do.
