“Life moves pretty fast, and if you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.” (Ferris Bueller) There are moments to remember in youth ministry, especially those that happen later on in the year. Here are some suggestions.
- Have a prayer board. You can outline the parameters that are needed to ensure appropriate materials are posted. But post both praise items and prayer requests (and answers, if applicable). This could be a virtual board or a physical board.
- Have someone be the “designated photographer” for your events. You can have students rotate and take appropriate pictures of memorable moments. Someone could even compilate a highlight video at the end of the year.
- Mark down your own moments. These may not even be very visible moments. Write down moments when a student made a significant step forward or you witnessed God move in a subtle and profound way.
- Have students share some of these stories, both with one another and with the congregation at large.
A note of caution: Sometimes, people may be so focused on capturing memories that they forget to experience moments as they are happening. Set the appropriate parameters to encourage students to live the moment God has given while also ensuring it’s somehow recorded or noted.
What other ways would you capture memorable moments?
