The ministry year is less than 2 months from finishing; youth ministries are making the final stretch and are starting to wrap things up. One key opportunity we urge you to take is to thank your volunteers. Here are some suggestions.   It’s Not One-Size-Fits-All In a previous blog post, we noted that different people receive appreciation differently. That being the case, now’s a great time to find ways to

The Larger (Baptist) Family

As Baptists, we place a high value on the autonomy of the local church. It’s crucial for local congregation’s to discern God’s direction in their specific context. But we also realize we are part of a larger (Baptist) family and thrive in larger community.   ASSOCIATIONS Almost all of our CBOQ churches belong to a regional association. Association gatherings enable churches who are geographically closer together to support one another

Centre Court 2019 – recap

By |2019-03-25T23:43:42-04:00March 25th, 2019|event recap|0 Comments

While it was a heart-breaking loss with a nearly impossible shot, our post-game program highlighted the different ways Jesus continues to make an impact in people's lives. We were excited to have Jeremy Lin share his testimony and to give a word of encouragement to our guests. Specifically, he highlighted Galatians 6:9 as the verse that he's currently meditating on. (Much of his story was captured on our CBOQ Youth

CE-DR 2019: Day 8

By |2019-03-15T23:55:10-04:00March 15th, 2019|DR 2019|0 Comments

Jon (Kingsway): Today we had to say goodbye to the other two teams that were here with us this past week. Compass from Orangeville and Flamborough from outside Hamilton. One upside was that we had the facilities all to ourselves, the other is that we definitely got some larger pieces of avocado for lunch! Our work today was focused on completing a concrete ramp to allow

CE DR 2019: Day 6

Will (Harmony): Today was quite a fun day. In contrast to the hard work we were doing on some other days, today we got to relax a bit and we visited some caves as well as go to the marketplace. The marketplace was really fun because it wasn’t a regular old marketplace. Here we had the option of bargaining and that was a lot of fun.

With the recent directive to ground the Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 from Canadian airspace, there have been inquiries about the group's flight status. Air Transat does not have this aircraft in their fleet. There are no anticipated changes in their flight itinerary.

CE-DR 2019: Day 5

Jon (Kingsway): This morning we had the opportunity to visit the CBOQ School that teams built in 2013. The school goes up to grade 5 and has three classrooms. We rotated activities with each class. Recess, where we bounced basketballs, kicked soccer balls, blew bubbles, and face painted with them. We made bracelets with them, with different colour beads, each representing an aspect of what Jesus

CE-DR 2019: Day 4

Matthew (Kingsway): Today was our second work day, day four of our trip. The work we did today definitely felt harder for me than yesterday, however we paced ourselves well and drank lots of water, and were able to work until the end of the day, maintain our productivity. When we arrived at our worksite, the water purification plant, after lunch, we were told that we

CE-DR 2019: Day 3

Emmanuel (Harmony): Today was our first work day and it was fun! We went to Villa Altagracia. We were split into two groups and my group started off by shoveling dirt and debris and wheel barrowing to another room. After, we went to lay bricks but it had rained for quite awhile which cut into our work time. The thing that stood out to me the most was that

CE-DR 2019: Day 2

Martin (Harmony): The energy from our group today was radiant, because for most of us, it was the first sleep in 24h! Today we were greeted with an amazing sunrise. You could see the vast mountain range in layers before you. As the rest of us got up, we were greeted with the smell of pancakes and sausages, and it tasted great! Personally, I was really surprised how
