Esports in April

By |2021-03-29T16:52:02-04:00March 22nd, 2021|Events|0 Comments

We are excited to be launching this esports series next month. We hope it will give a baseline of understanding for our youth leaders and parents as they navigate the relatively new frontier of esports, which is becoming a mainstream entertainment option. It’s not just some people gaming alone on their computers. Esports is both a competitive profession (professional athletes) and a spectator entertainment choice. In 2019, it was a $4.5 billion industry in Canada.   While CBOQ Youth is not intending (at this time) to initiate any

Evaluating Summer Opportunities

By |2021-03-14T21:50:08-04:00March 14th, 2021|best practices|1 Comment

It’s been just over a year since the first comprehensive lockdown happened. For many of our senior youth and young adults, this was a curveball like no other. Graduations and milestones changed. Work opportunities were in flux. Some students were helped by programs like CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit) and CESB (Canada Emergency Student Benefit), although these programs also may have influenced their expectations of what work-life and remuneration means.  For those in school (whether secondary or post-secondary), the expectations of this summer will need to be

Preparing for the Easter Season

By |2021-02-12T22:00:16-05:00February 12th, 2021|Pastor Tips|0 Comments

Tip 2: Begin Talking about Lent/Easter Plans with your Children and Youth Leaders  At the beginning of the Easter season, what conversation behave you had with your children and youth leaders about how your church will celebrate Easter? We all have to face changing variables (similar to those we faced last December ahead of Christmas) in what we’re able to do.  Some considerations and questions as you approach the conversation these coming days:   During this Easter season, what are the non-negotiable expressions? (Be careful not to confuse these with what you want the most.)

Blizzard 2021 – review

By |2021-02-08T21:07:15-05:00February 7th, 2021|Uncategorized|0 Comments

This was certainly a Blizzard retreat unlike any other we've had. With 20+ churches spread to Windsor to Montreal, we all joined in 1 central location: YouTube. Together, we worshipped with Life Support and were challenged by Dave's messages, reminding us to be God's ambassadors ... everywhere. We heard stories of the activities youth were doing. Many youth leaders extended the experience with delivered care packages for each student.

(My) First Steps into Esports

By |2021-01-23T22:08:00-05:00January 23rd, 2021|Alvin Lau|2 Comments

As the pandemic continues, many of our youth are engulfed in gaming both as players and spectators. Esports (which is a competition using video games usually with spectators) has grown into its own industry. According to Business Insider, it will likely surpass $1B in revenue this year. As one person who’s immersed in the esports world, I see this as a digital mission field.  Some youth leaders are more familiar with esports; some may already be involved in it. Here are some suggested

Review: Avalanche 2021

By |2021-01-18T00:23:17-05:00January 18th, 2021|event recap|0 Comments

AVALANCHE 2021 REVIEW Avalanche this year was unlike any we've ever hosted. Given the pandemic and most recent state of emergency "stay at home" orders, so many of our churches had to stay at home (and our Avalanche team as well). That didn't stop us from delving into our theme "ONE: One God. One Life. Together". Meisha Watson led us through a biblical understand of how God is wanting
