As Baptists, we place a high value on the autonomy of the local church. It’s crucial for local congregation’s to discern God’s direction in their specific context. But we also realize we are part of a larger (Baptist) family and thrive in larger community.   ASSOCIATIONS Almost all of our CBOQ churches belong to a regional association. Association gatherings enable churches who are geographically closer together to support one another

We were excited to have Jeremy Lin share his testimony and to give a word of encouragement to our guests. Specifically, he highlighted Galatians 6:9 as the verse that he's currently meditating on. (Much of his story was captured on our CBOQ Youth

Not only did they witness a Raptors 905 victory (along with some highlights), they also heard from Derek Cooke Jr and Rodney Pryor. After the game, everyone under the age of 13 was given the opportunity to get a player's autograph and take 1 shot on court. Afterwards, we gathered in section 2 for our post-game

Extending the Family

This year at Avalanche and Blizzard our focus was on God’s invitation to his table,a. theme that resonated deeply with so many people. Indeed, we welcomed, figuratively speaking, “the poor, the blind, the crippled, the blind and the lame.” Today is Family Day. Google’s first definition of family is “a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household.” (https://www.google.com/search?safe=active&rlz=1C1GCEU_enCA820CA820&q=Dictionary#dobs=family) We were all born into a family. Another season of retreats is complete. This weekend featured the Irish-Canadian Kevin McGlade from Sarnia and Life Support leading worship. Kevin tied together the stories of Adam and Eve, Zaccheus and the Prodigal Son, demonstrating God's initiative to seek us out and his invitation to us to join him. We praised God in extended worship. We even celebrated those who chose to say "yes" to Jesus for the first

What a Blizzard weekend it was! With just over 315 students and leaders on site, we were led into worship with Life Support (celebrating their 10+ years of ministry with us) and God spoke through Mona Scrivens. There were many circumstances surrounding this Blizzard. A variety of external factors could have easily distracted our team. By Friday morning, many of us had a sense that God would do something remarkable (and

Avalanche 2019 recap

By |2019-01-23T01:11:12-05:00January 23rd, 2019|event recap|0 Comments

Last weekend, we hosted our 19th Avalanche retreat (if you include the first jr. high retreat that happened at the same time as Blizzard in 2001). While the temperatures were very cold (possibly the coldest Avalanche we've had), God continued to move in mighty ways. The cold temperatures altered some of our plans. We managed to play our team competition game in the gym with over 550 students and leaders.
