Avalanche 2019 recap

By |2019-01-23T01:11:12-05:00January 23rd, 2019|event recap|0 Comments

Last weekend, we hosted our 19th Avalanche retreat (if you include the first jr. high retreat that happened at the same time as Blizzard in 2001). While the temperatures were very cold (possibly the coldest Avalanche we've had), God continued to move in mighty ways. The cold temperatures altered some of our plans. We managed to play our team competition game in the gym with over 550 students and leaders.

Another Assembly is done. Our family gathered to worship and fellowship over three days. Among us was the focus on the next generation. While most of the program was similar to previous years, there were some unique elements to this year's Assembly: God's word delivered by Chap Clark and Tim Day. We were led into God's presence by Drew Brown. Assembly approved the motion to change a by-law allowing churches

The class of 2018 is about to finish high school. The next few months will be filled with excitement, anxiety and a dash of chaos as many head to college and university. Last Saturday, some of these high school grads connected with upper years heading to the same campus this September. Transition 101 is a collaboration with Ambassadors for Christ, Navigators, Inter Varsity and Power 2 Change. Our objective for

CBOQ and the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada participate in an exchange of young adult teams, learning from each other and celebrating God's work in our regions. This past weekend, Kylie Hurlburt, Meaghan Graham and Mike Andress with Alvin represented CBOQ at CBAC's new multi-denominational adventure "One Conference" in Moncton, NB. The intention of this exchange is to discover the answer to two questions: what is God uniquely doing in

Centre Court 2018 – review

By |2018-03-18T00:38:37-04:00March 19th, 2018|Alvin Lau, event recap|0 Comments

Last Friday was the 18th Centre Court event I've participated in. And boy, was it a crazy game?! Overtime and a nail biter right to the end. (You can see all the highlights at raptors.com.) For me, it wasn't just a nail biter of a game. We were also pressed for time and our program. Because the arena needed to be converted for the Leafs game on the following night,

The following two blog posts are from Matt and Jared (Stanley Park Baptist Church). There were many things today that had spoken to me. Today was the last full day of work and the last day to help make a difference in the DR. As a result, it made me want to work my hardest and put all my energy into the work I was doing. I didn’t want to

This blog is from Beatriz (Central Baptist Church in Oakville). Hey everyone, its, Beatriz! Today is Wednesday, and we spent the entire day exploring the amazing nature that the Dominican has to offer. We went to see 2 waterfalls, and then swimming in the park where the waterfalls were at. The beauty that this country possesses is unreal. It is so incredibly beautiful here, that it just left me so

This blog post is authored by Katie (Mimico Baptist Church). Hello everyone, it’s Katie! I hope everything is good with everyone back home! Everything is great here aside from a few bumps and bruises a few people have gotten. We started off our day with an amazing breakfast as usual. Today we stayed at the compound and did work there instead of going to the work site in Villa Altagracia.

This blog post is from Enzo (Central Baptist Church-Oakville). Today was my first day of physical work. The past two days, I had been teaching ESL, painting and going on a community walk. This morning, we had breakfast around 8am and we took a 20 minute bus ride to get to a brand new water purification facility...rather, soon to be. The whole morning, my group worked on laying down bricks
