Next Gen Pastors Retreat 2023 recap

By |2023-10-07T01:02:32-04:00October 7th, 2023|Uncategorized|0 Comments

Our first Next Gen Pastors Retreat with 14 children, family, youth and next gen pastors gathered at Camp Kwasind this past week. We had 2 main areas: Learning about SEL (social-emotional learning) wisdom both for each of us individually and how we can support our children and youth in those areas. Margaret Boersma led us in activities and lessons to help us hone those skills. Diving deeper into the

Raptors 905 Faith and Family (youth edition)

By |2020-01-22T23:36:20-05:00January 22nd, 2020|0 Comments

Along with CBOQ Kids, we are extending their Raptors 905 Faith and Family event to include a youth outreach component. This is a great opportunity to come watch hopefully-soon-to-be NBA players, then enjoy a post-game program featuring a Raptors 905 player and on-court games. (Think of this as Centre Court, G-League style.) Have your students invite their friends (and their families) for this affordable event!   Fill out my online

Raptors 905 Faith/Family – recap

By |2019-03-03T21:41:34-05:00March 3rd, 2019|Uncategorized|0 Comments

Last Saturday, CBOQ Kids welcomed almost 150 people to the Raptors 905 Faith/Family game. Not only did they witness a Raptors 905 victory (along with some highlights), they also heard from Derek Cooke Jr and Rodney Pryor. After the game, everyone under the age of 13 was given the opportunity to get a player's autograph and take 1 shot on court. Afterwards, we gathered in section 2 for our post-game

Extending the Family

This year at Avalanche and Blizzard our focus was on God’s invitation to his table,a. theme that resonated deeply with so many people. Indeed, we welcomed, figuratively speaking, “the poor, the blind, the crippled, the blind and the lame.” Today is Family Day. Google’s first definition of family is “a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household.” (https://www.google.com/search?safe=active&rlz=1C1GCEU_enCA820CA820&q=Dictionary#dobs=family) We were all born into a family. Family Reunions

Each family does them differently. Our CBOQ family reunion aka Assembly is no different, but  something special happens every time our family of churches gather together. For me (Alvin), after being part of 17 Assemblies, I am encouraged by these common occurrences: Friends greeting friends, especially if they haven’t seen each other since the last Assembly. There are numerous people I get to see once a year, and it’s a

Last week, our Canadian Baptist Youth and Family team met together. This semi-annual gathering allows us to pray and discuss what opportunities might be available for us nationally. CB Youth & Family team exists to advocate for and make possible national and global synergies in the areas of youth, family and young adult ministry. In order to achieve this, there are four objectives: Make possible both national and global youth and

Family Reunion

What does a (healthy) family reunion look like? Next week, a group of our youth pastors will spend 40 hours at Camp Kwasind for our annual youth pastors retreat. Granted, not all family reunions are events we look forward to, but this is one you will enjoy and remember. For me, YPR (aka our youth pastor family reunion) looks like this: times of deep laughter establishing old and new friendships

Faith and Family (Ticats Style)

By |2015-04-15T21:22:30-04:00April 15th, 2015|Alvin Lau|0 Comments

Family time is often sacrificed for other priorities nowadays. With seemingly endless and hectic schedules (both for parents and kids), a night together is hard to come by, unless that time is intentionally set aside. We’re hoping families will set aside time for the Ticats Faith and Family night. We’re supporting the Ticats in their Faith and Family event on Saturday, August 15 for three reasons: To provide a space for families

Distinguishing Youth Ministry

Ask a church their definition of "youth ministry", you'll probably get a variety of responses. Many define it as a program where youth are the target audience. Others emphasize mentoring and relationships with youth. Recently, some are expanding it to be family ministries i.e. ministering to parents and their families. Over the last few months, I've (Alvin) recognized there is a distinction between youth ministry and a church's reponse to

Last week, directors from our Canadian Baptist partners in youth and family gathered. These semiannual meetings aren't just to catch up. They are times to discern how we can come together at a national level with discernment from the Holy Spirit. CB Youth and Family's mandate is to advocate and make possible national and global synergies in the areas of youth, family and young adult ministry. Some elements that we
