update: We have updated our post-secondary strategy.   CBOQ Youth has remained focus to be serve, resource and support the local church in seeing youth take their next step towards Jesus and engage with the local church. When the Hemorrhaging Faith report was released in 2013, CBOQ Youth prayerfully discerned how we could respond to its findings, and to support our youth ministry leaders and our churches. May 2021 – Pastors’ Tip #3

TIP 3: Celebrate the people going through different graduations.  This is the season when many children and youth celebrate milestones (although differently, like last year). This includes:  Grade school to high school  High school to post-secondary (whether school, apprenticeship or work)  Post-secondary studies to new careers (or for further studies)  (others you may know about)  As you identify these individuals, consider:  Reaching out to each graduate individually, whether it’s a

tip: Find out where your high school grads are going, and connect the ones heading to university with a campus group at t101.ca. If you have high school graduates this spring, encouraging in their next step is vital. For those going to university this September especially if it's away from home, your influence in helping them make that connection to a new faith community is crucial. Oct 2020 Tip 2

“Identify your high school grads and their plans.”  High school graduation is an exciting time in a person’s life. It’s the closure of one chapter and the anticipation of the next one to come.  As the pastor, acknowledging this rite of passage is crucial. At least know who’s graduating this year in your church. You may not be able to connect with them regularly, but at least knowing who they are is a great start.   What specific

With Your Grads … From Your Church

For the class of 2020, this will be a transition unlike others in recent history.  No prom. The graduation ceremony won’t be until the fall. These students won’t have the chance to say goodbye as a group.  The move towards post-secondary life will be just as different for them, although for those taking a gap year or working, the shift may not be as drastic. (Students taking a gap year may find our Gap Year Template helpful.)  Life will continue to be different than usual for those going

Transition 101 2019 – review

By |2019-06-03T23:12:18-04:00June 3rd, 2019|event recap|0 Comments

Last Saturday, we had high school grads, upper year students and campus staff from 18 schools across Ontario at Wycliffe College. Our goal: to connect the class of 2019 to future "older siblings" going to the same campus in September. Grads had an opportunity to connect personally with those upper year students. They asked questions, gained the inside 411 about their specific campus. Parents had their own track to better

There are about 15 weeks left in the school year and for some of your students these are the final weeks of their high school career. So how are they preparing for that post-high school transition? Hopefully by now, you’ve started conversations with those soon-to-be grads. If you have we would love you to share your insights on those conversations are at facebook.com/transition101. If you haven’t initiated conversations, consider using

One month has already passed in this school year. Your high school grads are only nine months away from graduation. How are you supporting them in their transition to emerging adulthood? Renegotiating Faith highlighted that home church youth groups and mentors are key in the successful shift into emerging adulthood. Here is one way for you to help your grads. On June 1, 2019, we along with Power 2 Change,

The class of 2018 is about to finish high school. The next few months will be filled with excitement, anxiety and a dash of chaos as many head to college and university. Last Saturday, some of these high school grads connected with upper years heading to the same campus this September. Transition 101 is a collaboration with Ambassadors for Christ, Navigators, Inter Varsity and Power 2 Change. Our objective for

Transition 101 – review

It was certainly an event to remember: the collaboration of Inter-Varsity, Power 2 Change, Ambassadors for Christ and CBOQ Youth, supporting grade 12 students in their transition into post-secondary life. This inaugural event laid the groundwork for a key Hemorrhaging Faith issue. The Hemorrhaging Faith report identified transition points, including those in between life stages, as one area where many people move away from the faith. For the high school
