Praying for Youth Together

By |2015-04-23T10:52:10-04:00April 23rd, 2015|Alvin Lau|0 Comments

Prayer is central to our faith. When we gather to pray, we seek God’s will for a common purpose or issue. On Sunday, June 14, we ask you to join Canadian Baptist churches across Canada in praying for the upcoming generation. The Canadian Baptist Youth & Family Team (comprised of representatives from Canadian Baptist Ministries, Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, Canadian Baptists of Western Canada and CBOQ) are planning a National

Faith and Family (Ticats Style)

Family time is often sacrificed for other priorities nowadays. With seemingly endless and hectic schedules (both for parents and kids), a night together is hard to come by, unless that time is intentionally set aside. We’re hoping families will set aside time for the Ticats Faith and Family night. We’re supporting the Ticats in their Faith and Family event on Saturday, August 15 for three reasons: To provide a space for families

Many people have reviewed the findings of the Hemorrhaging Faith report. One key area the report found where students "fell through the cracks" was during transition periods, including the shift from high school to post-secondary studies. This year, CBOQ Youth, along with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, Power to Change and Ambassadors for Christ, is pleased to sponsor a portion of the Canadian Youth Network Youth Worker Lunch Resource Tour. Together, we're

What is a pre-evangelistic event?

By |2016-10-31T13:57:17-04:00March 5th, 2015|Alvin Lau, event recap|0 Comments

We've heard of "outreach events" before. Usually, they refer to some kind of outing for students to invite friends. In some cases, outreach events include a very specific "salvation" message and a call to respond (i.e. altar call). However, there are times when a pre-evangelistic event (which is part of outreach) may be a better first point of engagement. Centre Court is a pre-evangelistic event. For our Centre Court event

In Another World

Stepping into another culture can have a profound impact on one's faith. For those who have grown up in a Christian environment, we can easily assume "this is what faith is". But when we step into another "world", our faith can be challenged ... and shaped for the better. Next week, a team of 29 students and leaders from four churches (First Baptist Church in Smiths Falls, Glen Acres Baptist

What happens when over 1500 students and leaders converge in one place? The Spirit moves. Imaginations begin to run wild. An energy erupts with a passion to change the world for His glory. Today's Teens Conference is the longest running training event in Ontario. Inspiration and challenge flowed from the keynote speakers Duffy Robbins and Jason Ballard. Dozens of workshop leaders walked through practical steps to help transform youth ministries.

Where is your ministry at … right now?

By |2016-10-31T13:57:17-04:00February 13th, 2015|Alvin Lau, youth ministry thoughts|0 Comments

Sometimes, in the midst of leading a ministry, seldom do we get a chance to take a step back to see what's happening at that moment ... unless we intentionally do so. Whether we like it or not, things change and things evolve. But if we don't take that step back every so often, the changes/evolutions happen right under our nose. Last year, we launched the ministry audit. While it

Blizzard 2 2015-review

Every retreat weekend brings a combination of challenges and celebrations. This weekend was no exception. But those challenges did not become insurmountable obstacles. Rather, they became a rallying point for many to dig deeper into who God is. The key to God's message this weekend was the framing of the message of salvation. Essentially, it isn't something to just grasp for ourselves, but understanding that his salvation for us must
