What is a pre-evangelistic event?

By |2016-10-31T13:57:17-04:00March 5th, 2015|Alvin Lau, event recap|0 Comments

We've heard of "outreach events" before. Usually, they refer to some kind of outing for students to invite friends. In some cases, outreach events include a very specific "salvation" message and a call to respond (i.e. altar call). However, there are times when a pre-evangelistic event (which is part of outreach) may be a better first point of engagement. Centre Court is a pre-evangelistic event. For our Centre Court event

What happens when over 1500 students and leaders converge in one place? The Spirit moves. Imaginations begin to run wild. An energy erupts with a passion to change the world for His glory. Today's Teens Conference is the longest running training event in Ontario. Inspiration and challenge flowed from the keynote speakers Duffy Robbins and Jason Ballard. Dozens of workshop leaders walked through practical steps to help transform youth ministries.

Blizzard 2 2015-review

Every retreat weekend brings a combination of challenges and celebrations. This weekend was no exception. But those challenges did not become insurmountable obstacles. Rather, they became a rallying point for many to dig deeper into who God is. The key to God's message this weekend was the framing of the message of salvation. Essentially, it isn't something to just grasp for ourselves, but understanding that his salvation for us must

It's been less than 12 hours since all students, leaders and staff left Muskoka Woods. For 40 hours, we went from -25'C weather on Friday night to a "balmy" +2'C on Sunday. In fact, half the snow was sliding off the Music Hall. In that time, we've heard stories of many students seriously considering how God views them in light of what was shared. Chris Tompkins, our speaker, challenged "You're

Ticats Faith and Family Event update

By |2016-10-31T13:57:17-04:00November 9th, 2014|Alvin Lau, event recap|0 Comments

Last Saturday night, CBOQ Youth with Children and Family joined the Hamilton Ticats for their final regular season game (and it was a memorable one). Several churches with children of all ages came to hear their stories of Jesus' impact on them. Guests offered questions and some

This is my (Alvin's) 14th Assembly. The structure and program has changed over the years. But something remains the same (at least it has for the last 14 years): a sense of the Spirit gathering others together for Him. There have been years where it hasn't really felt as such. There are faces that I see maybe once a year. But each time, it's as if it was only yesterday.

Slingshot: Springforth 2014 recap

By |2016-10-31T13:57:19-04:00May 12th, 2014|event recap, guest post|0 Comments

This post was written by Tim Teakle, youth pastor at Uxbridge Baptist Church and was the team leader for our Slingshot students (Brittni Lewis and Elizabeth Nichols).   The goal of Springforth, an annual event organized by the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, is a simple yet profound one: to invite students to take a leap with God…to “spring forth” into what He has in store for them and for
