Next Phase of Youth Ministry

With governments at different levels thinking through how best to reopen parts of Quebec and Ontario, churches and youth ministries are discussing what the next phase will be. To help guide you, CBOQ launched its latest resource: Preparing Your Church for the Next Phase. Youth leaders have many factors to consider. Youth ministries are usually a smaller segment of the local church family, which provides them with different opportunities and considerations compared to the operations of other ministries and the church at large. Here

Ticats Faith and Family Event update

Last Saturday night, CBOQ Youth with Children and Family joined the Hamilton Ticats for their final regular season game (and it was a memorable one). However, the greater impact came from the testimonies of three Ticat players: Luke Tasker, Joel Reinders  and Cary Koch with chaplain Steve Kearns. Several churches with children of all ages came to hear their stories of Jesus' impact on them. Guests offered questions and some

Advent Prep

Snow is falling (and staying depending on what area of Quebec or Ontario you’re living in). Retailers have already set up their Christmas decorations. How is your youth group preparing for advent? Some considerations: What transitions are worth keeping? Contrarily, what traditions should be adapted into something different? What expressions of Advent would speak to your neighbourhood? How would the message of Jesus resonate with your community? What media would

COVID-19: a few days later

Yesterday, almost all churches have gone to some kind of digital gathering. In the last 1-1.5 weeks, youth leaders are figuring out what's their best approach in light of social distancing (some have suggested using the term "physical distancing" instead). Some observations I've (Alvin) made (without any too conclusive): The way we approach ministry is shifting dramatically (obvious statement). It's pushed us to lean on more networks of support. I've

CE-DR 2023: Day 4

There was one key word that summarized our day: PAINT! In the morning, we divided into 2 groups: one that joined a ESL class and another painting the interior and the washrooms for a satellite school (that was named after CBOQ). In the afternoon, we continued painting, this time some metal storage unit that will be used in the Lighthouse compound itself.

Assembly 2014 – Before it Begins

This week, we gather with friends across all our churches. It's really a family reunion of our CBOQ tribe. (You can decide who's the crazy uncle at the family gathering.)There's lots happening in the next few days: David Fitch, our plenary speaker, will help us understand some of God's movements in our culture today. Did you know our plenary sessions (Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday midday) are FREE for EVERYONE?!

CE-DR 2019: Day 2

Martin (Harmony): The energy from our group today was radiant, because for most of us, it was the first sleep in 24h! Today we were greeted with an amazing sunrise. You could see the vast mountain range in layers before you. As the rest of us got up, we were greeted with the smell of pancakes and sausages, and it tasted great! Personally, I was really surprised how
